i’m a dad

i’m a dad

So it has been brought to my attention by my roommate that I’m a dad. Apparently, liking NPR podcasts and talk radio makes you like very dad-like. But seriously, I love NPR podcasts. My two favorite are the TED radio hour or the pop culture happy hour. I’m not really sure what turned me on to this odd habit, but it’s almost as bad as listening to book on tape (…oh wait I do that too).

Anyway, if…

Who Said the Good Ones are Gone?

Originally posted on Aish al Harja?:

These are a few photos from my recent visit to Al Balad, a historic district in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

I wanted to write an elaborate post describing my love for this part of my hometown, but I feel that the photos tell better tales than I could.

The buildings are, at the very least, a hundred years old. The architecture is distinctly Hijazi.

No, I am not a…

new politics

Okay, so my roomies and I went to a concert last night, the Monumentour. Headlining Fall Out Boy, Paramore, and New Politics. To be honest, I was mainly it it for, as my roomies joked “the opener for the opener,” New Politics. Honestly, you’ve probably heard one of their songs “Harlem” is one of their more famous ones, but I really started to listening to them when I was abroad last fall. My…

do better

So first off, my apologies… it’s been a while since I’ve logged on. Blame it on the internship, class, and the totally guilt free weekend I spend at my family’s lake cottage. Anyway, so I know it’s crazy but after the “guilt free” snacking and time spent around bikini bodies that were better than mine (let’s not dwell on that), in my never ending quest to be more positive, I’ve decided to…

on the run and go

on the run and go

I feel like I run all day. I run to my internship, I run to meetings, I run back home. I run to my job, I run to the library to finish a paper, I literally run so much that I feel like I collapse forward into bed sometimes. But I run so much that when I actually run, I feel like I’m slowing down.

My mind constantly feels like it’s on this race track constantly doing 500 laps just to figure out…

I’ve never really been a futbol fan, soccer as we call it in the states. Out of respect, I’m calling it futbol in these circumstances because most of the world calls it that way. But any way to the point, I’ve never really watched the sport, but like many major global events, somehow it tends to pull you in and suddenly feel like we all share some commonality, in this mess of cultural, economic,…

midsummer

So there’s this thing that my school does. It’s called midsummer. Basically, everyone chooses a week in the middle of summer I and summer II sessions at my university to come together to see each other.
That may be the sentimental side of the story, but the real side of the story is that everyone just comes back to get really, really, really drunk.
I’m 21 so I can say it, but it literally is so…

book club

Alright, so I’m not really in a book club, but almost every summer I swallow whole ten books during my time off from school. It’s really the only time that I get to read the “fun” stuff. Ever since I was in grade school and the library had a summer reading program, it was hard for me to put a book down in the summer.

I think it all started when my dad started reading to me as little kid. He made…

boxed-up

Okay, so I have an obsession I’d like to readily admit: make-up samples. I hoard them, and there’s nothing I love to better than spend a boring Wednesday night home sorting through all the new exciting items. Face balms and lipsticks, bright eye shadows and a pore cleanser, all of it makes my heart beat faster. So what do I use to feed this addiction? Birchbox.

Now I’ve stumbled across a couple…

the short list

So I’m a secret fan of this website called big cartel. I found it, once upon my trying to be a hipster days. Big cartel is basically this website that hosts a bunch of smaller stores, and most of it’s junk, but every time I get on it I can’t help but waist countless hours sifting through to find unique pairings.

I really do admire the artists on this website because, unlike my marketing brain,…
